Spring 2011 Trends We Like

The Spring 2011 may see a surge in the price of red diesel but there will also be an increase in runway shows showing, as usual, a wide range of trends, from eye popping jewel tones to subdued safari shades, retro silhouettes to innovative “mash-ups"of classics, Japanese-inspired accessories to vintage ones. From this veritable fashion feast, we like these very wearable trends, and can’t wait to start wearing them!
One trend we really like is the shift to more comfortable clothes. Across the board, designers showed looser, breezier shapes. These shapes were by no means baggy or messy – they were beautifully draped, clinging in comfortable, but sexy, shapes. Longer, looser draped blouses, knits and dresses are a relief from the uncomfortable (and unforgiving!) skintight looks of the past few seasons.
In this vein of chic comfort, another trend was a looser pant silhouette. Stylish high-waisted pants had looser, flared legs, which is a welcome change from the skinny pant and jean silhouette that’s been all the rage for the past few years.
There was still some structure on the spring runway, though. We like the structured military look, such as the jacket and vest. We also like an innovative “trench sheath"from DKNY, which combines the easiness of a sleeveless sheath dress, with the structure of a military trench coat. This structured trend looks especially fresh when complemented with softer, more comfortable feminine pieces, such as a delicate, billowy skirt.
On the accessory front, we love the “flatform”, which Michael Kors showed in spring-friendly neutrals. This cute new shoe has a high, flat platform wedge sole, giving the comfort of a flat, and the height of a platform wedge. Japanese-inspired belts and chunky colorful bangles are must-haves, too. We also like the trend of preppy vintage accessories, including loafers, striped totes, and structured ladylike bags.
