Another advantage of sporting events like Olympics is that it provides a channel for youthful energy. The youth has a lot of energy and it is often misdirected. Recent instances of banner stands being damaged and property being burned in the recent riots is an example of what can happen if the youth is not kept busy. This is where the Olympics can make a huge difference.

Of course, youngsters will have to live under the authority of the elders for the rest of their lives if they do not convince them to hand over the charge. This is the primary reason why youngsters rebel against the elders. It is just a question of obtaining power. This is done in the form of cultural rebellion. With the growth in the rate at which the internet is utilized, it has now become a common thing for some persons to experience cyber bullying. The internet has its positive sides and the negative aspect. Cyber bullying is considered to be one of the negative sides.

Impersonation is an example of cyber bullying. The bully will steal your identity for criminal purposes. It will end up painting you in a very bad light among your online acquaintances.

Another example is stalking. The bully sends abusive messages to the victim through emails and other means. The person being stalked may then begin to have thoughts for suicide. Some will even take this offline and pose as say utility personnel or someone from Domestic Cleaning Surrey to gain access to the person’s home and personal information.

Degradation is another type. It involves the spread of false and derogatory information about the victim all over the cyber world. This can destroy the image and reputation of the victim. Some people, especially teenagers have had serious problems when this occurs and some have even end up committing suicide.

Flaming can also be used by the bully. He or she may decide to use abusive language on the victim if the two of them are involved in a discussion group. The affected person may end up getting depressed.

It is also possible for images of the victim to be altered in such a way that it will speak derogatorily of the victim. This had also been found to lead to depression.

Society seems to enjoy clothing teenagers in an unattractive light. We are too violent, too unappreciative, and too rude. Whilst these accusations only describe a handful of youths, people also seem to overlook some of the positives that stem from teenage culture.

With the rise of technology, actors and actresses becoming more popular than before, so celebrities often try to look their best. This subsequently means that many teenagers will try to do the same, and develop an attractive body.

Of course, many of us take this too far and use steroids in order to rush to our goals, and the other extreme with girls starving they in order achieve that “perfect size 0″ look does no favours to anyone.

However, overlooked are the majority of us who seek to better ourselves without being to rash or impatient. I see more and more youths in my local fitness centre join up. More and more of us are seen going for a jog, for a swim.

Moreover teenagers seem to be catching up fast to the “standard” of the older generations. While this was of course inevitable, the media’s use of the stereotypical makes this hard to believe for some, who retaliate with sceptical remarks.

It seems the most prudent action we as youths can take is to endure the criticism, and not to give in and become what we are only suspected of being. So carry on and by your protein powder, your running shoes and swimming caps. Keep opening doors for people, smiling to your neighbours and helping each other. Prove them wrong so they can prove us right.

We are in a world where everyone is busy with something or the other. Some are busy with work and some with studies, often we tend to ignore the fact that we have a life beyond our work and education. Even though things turn out to be monotone, we still continue to do the same to achieve our goal. I believe our work is important; however, we need to have fun as well to have a balanced life.

The South Bank is one of those cultural centers which bring a lot of fun. Last week I had the opportunity to visit the South Bank situated in the borough of Southwark. South Bank is a place full of energy with exciting concert halls and lots of theaters. The Hayward gallery is known for some of the best exhibitions including gold and silver jewellery.

The South Bank consists of three major concert halls, the Royal National Theatre, the National Film Theater and the new addition which is the London Eye. Apart from these you have street entertainment, lots of pubs, restaurants etc.

Once upon a time South Bank was the most disreputable and infamous part of London. In those days the kind of fun and entertainment people used to have were cock fighting, bear and bull-baiting and prostitution. People who belonged to this area were poor and were living in unsanitary conditions. The clink prison was situated in Southwark which was home for the notorious.

Today South Bank is a safe place which attracts a considerable crowd every day. It is one of London’s major attractions.

Youth culture is as mad today as it was in the 60s. Holidays are still a firm fixture on people’s lists though and with the option to rent villas all over Europe for cheap prices many 18-22 year olds are escaping abroad to party themselves into oblivion.

Portugal has become a popular spot for young revellers to go on holiday and because of the state of the economy, it is even more affordable to go to. The Algarve itself is a perfect place to go on holiday. The villas themselves in the Algarve are spacious and well designed to keep occupants cool and the heat out. The luxury ones have swimming pools and many other delights to keep even the most ardent partygoer amused for a few weeks.

With times as tough as they are and the increase in student fees about to climb even higher, more and more young people are running away from the UK to escape the hardship and enjoy themselves before submitting to the economic realities at home. And why not! Sometimes the best thing to do is to run away somewhere warm to clear your head in any case!

Pub life is already turning to a British religion. Visiting a pub is as easy as trying to learn pole dance techniques. There are many pubs in London but some will be considered in this piece as top outlets for different reasons. The first on the list is Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese; one of the oldest pubs to grace the ancient city of London. People who have visited say that the pub has a way of taking one back into history. It is also popular with tourists and of course locals as well. This pub was rebuilt in the 16th century after the Great Fire. For those who are interested in pubs with long history, another ancient one is Ye Old Watling. It comes with a restaurant, lounge room and games machine. Ye Old Watling is always busy but remains a lovely place with excellent service.
Princess Louise in Holborn is also admired by many. The Times described it as having possibly the best Victorian pub interior in London. It is said to be a must visit for anyone wanting to discover what sets the London pub. Tiles, mirrors, mahogany, bras and the gent’s toilet here are listed. The Hand and Shears on Middle Street, Cloth Fair London is recognised by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA). This pub is a typical example of a nineteenth century ale house and remains virtually unchanged from the Victorian era. The Hand and Shears is one of only three pubs within the city of London listed on the National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors. There are many other excellent pubs but the ones in this piece are a must see.

It’s long been accepted that the media puts too much pressure on teenage girls to look good – or, more precisely, to be thin. It’s even been discussed at great length in serious newspapers, whole documentaries have been devoted to the subject and lots of organisations set up to provide help and support to those girls who feel they may be struggling with an eating disorder.
While it is, of course, fantastic that these steps have been taken, I do think that the same media who condemn movie star and singers for making teenage girls want to be skinny have completely missed one very important fact; teenage boys are also falling victim to eating disorders and are feeling the pressure to look a certain way.
I can see why this has slipped past a lot of us. After all, it wasn’t long ago that you had to drag teenage boys kicking and screaming into the bathroom. That’s all changed now. My little brother has at least two showers a day and sprays himself with so much deodorant that you have to seal the bathroom off after he’s used it for the safety of everyone else in the house.
He nagged my Mum so much that she eventually signed the parental permission form to let him join the adult gym round the corner from our house. She doesn’t see any harm in it, and I suppose it’s good that he wants to stay fit. I just worry that he’s going to be exposed to even more pressure to look a certain way in that environment. And also exposed to things like protein powder, and even steroids, that some of these muscle-bound guys use so that they can achieve and maintain that perfect physique that my wee brother craves.
